Carolyn Davidson is an American graphic designer and artist who is best known for designing the Nike "swoosh" logo in 1971. She was a design student at Portland State University when she was approached by Nike co-founder Phil Knight to design a logo for his growing company. Davidson reportedly completed the design in just 17.5 hours and was paid only $35 for her work. However, as Nike's success grew, Davidson was later given stock options that proved to be worth millions of dollars. She has since gone on to have a successful career as a graphic designer and artist, and her work has been featured in numerous publications and exhibitions. Davidson has also been recognized with several awards for her contributions to the design industry, including the American Institute of Graphic Arts Medal in 2014.
